LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Lakers lost the game 133-130. But King James got the record and that’s all that matters. LeBron James swished a 21-foot fadeaway with 10.9 seconds left in the third quarter Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. LeBron, now in his 20th season, entered the contest with 38,352 points — needing a measly 36 to overtake the lanky 7-footer previously known as Lew Alcindor. As soon as he hit the record-breaking shot, LeBron raised his hands in the air while gazing skyward. The game was stopped and he was quickly encircled by photographers as thunderous chants of “MVP, MVP” rained down from the capacity crowd at Crypto.com Arena. As his highlights were being displayed on the arena videoboard, LeBron was joined midcourt by his wife ‘n’ kids. NBA commissioner Adam Silver and Abdul-Jabbar also took the floor.

Abdul-Jabbar handed LeBron a basketball as memorabilia then they posed for pictures.

“A record that has stood for nearly 40 years. Many people thought it would never be broken,” Silver said.

“LeBron, you are the NBA’s all-time scoring leader. Congratulations.”

LeBron, 38, took the microphone. “I just wanna say thank you to the Laker faithful. You guys are one of a kind,” he told the crowd. “To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it means so much to me. It’s very humbling. Please give a standing ovation to the captain, please… To my beautiful wife, my daughter, my two boys, my friends… man, everybody that’s ever been a part of this run with me the last 20 years — 20-plus years — I just wanna say I thank you so much ’cause I wouldn’t be me without y’all.” 

“F*ck man, thank you guys,” he added.

Yes, the king cussed on national television and it wasn’t censored.

But it was his big moment so we’ll let it slide.

LeBron, who wears No. 6, is 38 years old and he finished the night with 38 points for a total of 38,388.

Kareem’s record was also 38 years old when LeBron broke it.

  10. It’s my understanding that he’s been unappreciative and disrespectful to Kareem over all these years. He’s not much of a person and it shows if you’re using words like that in front of kids who are watching the game he’s not much of a moral citizen.

  11. The NBA is scripted like the NFL, he broke the record at 38 years old, scored 38 points on the 38th day of the year. There’s more to this and I’m going to write a essay on it. It’s all scripted and people still thinks it’s fair competition. These are paid athlete actors.

  14. I find it sad, a bit pathetic and overall very disturbing that followers of the NBA most of whom are people of color find the need to praise LBJ after this moment. Reason I say this is the irony of two individuals, 1. Kareem and the other LeBron. Kareem is the apidamy of class, excellence, and overall impeccable character. This a man that while in college and then during his pro career spent countless time working quietly behind the scene to help those who were illiterate, poor and overall underprivileged. He did this all the while quietly playing basketball. While others were throwing themselves in the spotlight he never felt the need to do so nor wanted to be seen. He twice lost everything to fires that destroyed his homes and most people didn’t even know it. Humble and a devote Muslim as well as passionate about civil rights. Not flashy in how he dresses and soft spoken. The NBA named it’s MAN of the year Award after him. Then you have LeBron. While very early in his career he did donate a lot of money to help build a school in Akron for underprivileged boys, as the years started to pass and he was slowly gaining attention he slowly drifted away from the young, giving LeBron. He slowly started to become more vocal in his dislike for certain players, and even teammates. He demanded a trade from Cleveland but walked it back till a free agent then boogied for Miami. While there he tried to assert his will and opinions over the team but met his match in GM Pat Riely. Pretty much realized whose team it was and was told to hit the road if he didn’t like it. ( coward ). Went back to Cleveland and even though he won a championship ruined the team for years to come. Then again left the team for LA and ever since arriving there has made a complete ASS if himself. Sitting in front of his locker with the Autobiography of Malcom X and was asked what he thought of the book and made and ASS of himself because he didn’t read the book. He has ruined the Lakers for years to come and to make matters even worse. He claims to be all about Social Justice and about making a difference in the world when it comes to race and yet continues to make millions off of slave labor and human trafficking in China when it comes to making Nike sneakers and clothing. He is a hypocrite, a liar and truly has shown the world what really is important to him. Takes pictures of himself with his new 400,000 Dollar car and videos of him shopping in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile hundreds of children some as young as 8 and 8 are forced to work for nothing making shoes that he promotes and gets paid millions of dollars. It makes my shin crawl when I hear him open his mouth and breaks my heart when I think of those young children. Kareem or LeBron???? I’ll take Kareem any day. If LeBron is a hero to you then I truly suggest to rethink your priorities in life over!!!!
