HOLLYWOOD — Disney officials are submerged in boiling hot water after members of the “Proud Family” demanded reparations because it’s their assertion slaves erected America. The animated characters made the proclamation during a theatrical performance that featured images of slaves working in cotton fields and a Ku Klux Klansman burning a cross. The Proud Family was recently rebooted following an 18-year hiatus. Now viewers are calling it the most woke cartoon ever. “This country was built on slavery which means slaves built this country!” they said. “Tilled this land from sea to sea to sea. First there was rice, tobacco, sugar cane. Then Whitney did his thing and cotton became king. And we were its soldiers, four million strong. Fighting for America’s freedoms even though we remained America’s… Slaves built this country! The descendants of slaves continue to build it. Slaves built this country! And we the descendants of slaves in America have earned reparations for their suffering. And continue to earn reparations every moment we spend submerged in a systemic prejudice, racism and white supremacy that America was founded with and still has not atoned for.

I like how they showed Zoey holding up the signs but not saying a word except for joining in when they all say “for the umpteenth time!” It shows that white people have a valuable place in Black activism as allies and supporters but that they mustn’t take center stage and speak for/over us. We need the support, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have our own voice and can’t speak for ourselves.

    Also my favorite part was “but slaves were men…and women!”

But the fact that this went through someone’s head to have them repeat “Slaves built this country” is mind-blowing. Or the fact that they are asking for people who aren’t slave owners to give people who aren’t slaves “reparations”. Or the fact that this kids show decided to put the FUCKING KKK IN A CARTOON. To all the white people out there that support leftist ideals, I couldn’t give another shit if I had one about your politics, believe what you want to believe. But please do not go about your day giving us “reparations” for something that happened hundreds of years ago that no one alive was part of. It is important to acknowledge what happened but what happened in the past is best left in the past and the fact that Disney was scummy enough to turn one of their most beloved, iconic families into some woke “superstars”.

  28. As someone that has actually WATCHED the reboot when it first premiered, I find it more annoying having to call the ENTIRETY of it woke garbage just because of it having two horrible episodes. It’s had more good episodes that outweighed these two along with some meh episodes, but overall it’s not close to being woke garbage completely.

  39. Not all of America was built by slaves only parts of America were built by slaves. All the Confederate States and Washington DC. Was built on the backs of slaves. None of the Union States we’re built on the backs of slaves except for Washington d.c. slaves did not build the entire country only parts of it. America was founded on religion not slavery. Now the Confederate states were founded on slavery but that doesn’t speak for the whole country.

No, I’m just upset to see a once popular, wholesome cartoon turned into a steaming pile of shit that makes the Rings of Power look like it was written by William Shakespeare. Now, I will say this: it’s not as bad as Velma, a show so bad it has no right to exist, but that’s like saying it’s better than nothing. Honestly, I’d say Velma is less than nothing.
