BOLINGBROOK — “If I can’t have you, no one can.” The adventures of Pookie & Ray Ray continue. Byrion Montgomery, 17, will spend the rest of his miserable existence behind bars after he murdered his ex-girlfriend, 17-year-old Samiya Shelton-Tillman, and two of her family members because she broke up with him. The massacre transpired on March 5, 2023 at Samiya’s residence in Bolingbrook, Illinois. According to police reports, Byrion blew a gasket when Samiya sundered their 2-year relationship. When she refused to take him back, Byrion barged into her home, pulled out a gun, and opened fire — striking Samiya, 40-year-old Cartez Daniels, and his 9-year-old daughter — Sanai Daniels. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. Samiya’s mom, 34-year-old Tania Stewart, was also shot. But she survived. Tania and Cartez were engaged. The gunshots were so damn loud, every neighbor on the block heard ’em. “Came home from dropping off my kids, and got inside and heard two gunshots,” recalled Ryan Hedberg. “There was apparently more, but that’s what we heard when we were sitting inside.”

Byrion was arrested and charged as an adult with multiple counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and a partridge in a pear tree. He’s facing a million years in prison. “Why did this happen?” bemoaned family member Tomika Reed. “What kind of world are we in?”

Social media reaction was vicious.

One commenter wrote, “Kids aren’t mature enough to date 💯. A lot of ‘adults’ aren’t either 🤧.”

Another chimed in with, “How did a 17-year-old get access to a gun?”

A third person added, “🕊️🥀What is wrong with these MEN/BOYS? They can’t get it in their heads that when it’s OVER, it’s OVER. These parents need to start getting in their kids’ business. I’m a 59-year-old woman with 3 grown sons. I was ALL UP IN THEIR sh*t 💩. Ask ANYBODY!! Being labeled a ‘NOSEY MAMA’ never phased me!! God help these kids today!! SMH!! My prayers and condolences to the family!!🙏🏽💔🕊️🥀”

Followed by the terror we felt for being a target for so long. Anger that has been building up in the hearts of our black young men do to a target being put on their backs. Look at some of the stories about our intelligent successful black men and you will see the same violence. When the black community began to exalt education over the teaching of the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ we have been seeing this disturbing trend of violence among our youth.

  21. Teach your sons early on to deal with their anger issues and rejection. It is never ok to harm a woman. Life should go on for everyone after a break up. Pain lasts only for a little while death is eternal.

  40. There is so much wrong here. First off I wouldn’t let my 15 year old daughter date, second he cheated on her but was mad? Whoever raised him never or could’ve been in his business. Meaning find out what he was doing, how he was doing to know his mental state. For this boy to kill this family because he was rejected this wasn’t something that was new. He never did good with rejection, I’m sure there was signs but people ignored him and signs. Now this boy is going to spend the rest of his life in prison. It angers me when a person don’t won’t to just leave the relationship! It’s over for whatever reason move on! You killing this person does what? I’m confused by that. To go to prison and you feel like you won because this person rejects you. The people in this world makes this a place of hell!
