HOLLYWOOD — “Inside the Industry” released the explosive documentary of Eddie Murphy’s big brother, Charlie Murphy (aka the Thug of Comedy), who, at 5 years old, became the man of the house after his father was killed. Not to mention, Charlie’s mother was hospitalized with tuberculosis — forcing him and Eddie to reside with family acquaintance Mrs. Jenkins, who treated ’em both like sh*t. She was also physically abusive. Prior to becoming a comedian, Charlie ran afoul of the law and ended up serving 10 months behind bars. After achieving manumission, he joined the U.S. Navy where he “became a man.” After 6 years of service, Charlie accepted employment as a member of Eddie’s security detail. During an appearance on ESPN, the “CB4” star was asked to reveal his favorite memory of being a bodyguard. “Whoopin’ somebody’s ass,” Charlie replied.
“That’s the best part of the job.”
Charlie eventually got sick ‘n’ tired of watchin’ Eddie’s back, so he quit his security job and pursued a métier in acting and screenwriting. The rest is history. Charlie helped write scripts for Vampire in Brooklyn, Norbit, and Chappelle’s Show. He was also a voice actor in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and The Boondocks. Charlie kicked the bucket in 2017 amid complications from leukemia.
He was 57.
Social media reaction was priceless.
One commenter wrote, “What did the 5 fingers say to the face? SLAP! I’m Rick James, bitch!”
Another viewer added, “If not for Eddie, Charlie would’ve never been heard of. There are far better comedians without super famous brothers that never made it.”
Do you think Charlie was funny?
Did he ride his brother’s coattails?

GOD GIVE US BACK CHARLIE MURPHY AND WE WILL GIVE U CHARLIE SHEEN !!!!
“Chappele’s Show” made him a HUGE sensation. He seemed like a well spoken, wisdom-minded comedian. Shocking, & a shame he had to leave us so quickly & sudden. Rest-In-Peace Charlie Murphy.
He was sacrificed by Dave Chappell because Chappell didn’t want to wear the dress.
R.I.P. Charlie Murphy. Loved him in CB4
Wow you never know how short your life is. RIP Charlie
