Ice Cube said ‘Last Friday’ coming to movie theaters

LOS ANGELES — “You got knocked the f*ck out!” Only took 22 years but it’s finally gonna happen. During a recent appearance on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show (Flavor of the Week), Ice Cube announced “Last Friday” is in the works. Yessir. It’ll be the fourth and final installment in the popular film series. The last movie, “Friday After Next,” came out in 2002. “We’re working on it,” Cube told Flavor Flav. “We finally got some traction with Warner Bros. They have new leadership. My man Mike DeLuca — who used to be at New Line [Cinema] when I first started, when I first did the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins — Mike DeLuca was there. So, now he’s running Warner Bros. And him and my man Michael Gruber was like, ‘Yo, what the f*ck is going on with Friday? Man, let’s get this sh*t back online.’” Chris Tucker, a born-again Christian who’s against smoking marijuana and using profanity, said he’s open to reprising his weed-puffin’ role of Smokey.

But he lambasted Warner Bros. for taking their sweet time.

“It’s studios, and they gotta want to do it,” Chris, 52, told Big Tigger during a chinwag on Atlanta’s V-103 radio station.

“And then it’s producers and all that stuff. It’s a lot that goes with it.”

Cube, 55, shared a homogeneous sentiment. Since the first “Friday” was released in 1995, three of its stars have died. There will be no Mr. Jones, no Deebo, and no Ezal. “You know, I was a little hot because they had took so long,” Cube admitted to Flav. “John Witherspoon passed away, [Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister Jr.] passed away, [Anthony ‘AJ’ Johnson] passed away. I’m like, ‘Man, we keep losing people, and y’all keep dicking around, not doing the movie the way it needed to be done.’”

Social media reaction was pessimistic.

One commenter wrote, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Another chimed in with, “Won’t be the same without Tiny Lister Jr, John Witherspoon and AJ Johnson.”

A third viewer added, “They waited too long. 65% of the cast is dead💀.”

My thing is, what’s the plot?

You can’t have Craig and Smokey unemployed while sedentary on a porch, puffin’ marijuana all day in their 50s.

They’re too old for that sh*t.

One mo’ thang…

What about Mrs. Parker?

You know, the sexy housewife married to a midget who f*cked the town pastor behind his back?

Is she still beddable after all these years?

Nevertheless…

The first “Friday” movie grossed around $28 million worldwide with an estimated budget of $3.5 million.

  14. He can keep that. A lot of the original cast has passed away and I don’t even think Chris Tucker will do the movie. Leave it alone. Not really feelin Cube lately anyway.

  15. Chris Tucker needs to come back. I know hes said he doesnt want to promote smoking, but this movie can be a look into these characters lives as theyve evolved over the years. Smokey couldve quit drugs and now a change man. Include a teachable moment that made the first special, maybe somehow connecting it to what pops said about living to see another day.

    Have everyone back if possible. And ultimately make this a celebration and dedicated it to the ones who passed along the way.

  21. So many people have died that were in the original Friday. But you still got the mama. You got Chris Tucker even if you bring him back as Smokey who is rehabilitated and doesn’t smoke. You still got DJ Pooh Nia Long Mike Epps Faizon Love. I think he should bring back all the original people from the first Friday as well as the other Fridays and just make something epic. Katt Williams. Fuckin Earthquake and his girlfriend. Terry Crews. Sticky Fingerz can be avenging his brother. Shit have DC Youngfly as Smokey’s son or something. It’s so much he can do with this movie man. I can’t wait.

  23. They need a POWER lineup and storyline for this to survive. Chris Tucker, DAMON, Felicia, Mike Epps, Uncle Elroy, Baby Joker & His Crew, AND Katt Williams need to be in this! Maybe even Eddie Griffin.

  24. Honestly I think we’re past this we’ve lost everyone pretty much the whole cast. It wouldn’t make sense to add new people in the mix and we’ve changed as a culture going to the movies and laughing isn’t the same anymore. Times were simpler back then we have too many distractions now and expect too much actors CGI etc. Maybe a Friday 4 just the deleted scenes compilation with narration will be interesting for home video.

  32. New Line Cinema won’t allow him to make another Friday, so there’s really nothing he can do about it. That was reported in 2022. Plus, it’s been over 20 years since the last one came out. John Witherspoon (Pop/Mr. Jones, Tiny Lister, Jr., (Deebo,) and AJ Johnson (Ezell) have since died. Chris Tucker whiny little butt doesn’t want to do it. (“I only got $50K!” But, you were a nobody in ‘95, Chris. Friday made you into a star. Yet, you still managed to blow that and go bankrupt.) Anyway, there’s no demand for this movie anymore. So, it makes no sense to do another one.

  34. Y’all don’t forget about Yvette Wilson ( whose character told Smokey she looked like Janet Jackson ) . She passed away as well. ( 2012 )

  35. Craig’s family cookout falls on a Friday this year he got a nice crib but he decides to throw it at his mommas old house from Friday. Smokey got Mrs Parker pregnant back in the day that’s why he left the hood. Her son was raised thinking Mr Parker was the dad. Then Smokey comes back to find he’s got a son, his son is Dc youngfky. ( I think the young characters or new school people should be cameos or side arcs) Katt Williams is formerly a pimp because of me too. Damn this movie could be written so many different ways

  43. He should create a “Friday Rush Hour Crossover” movie. The plot can bring Smokey back, explaining his absence in other movies by revealing he went to rehab and then became a member of the LAPD before joining the FBI. This way, the storyline ties both movie franchises together and wraps them up with this final film.

  45. Can’t wait to see it sure some good characters are deceased but some are still here it can happen its about the creator ice cube is absolutely good at putting movies together I believe in him I will be waiting

  46. It won’t be the same. I think he shouldn’t call it Friday, bring in a new cast and give it another name but Friday should be retired. The first Friday was legendary, Next Friday was pretty good but Friday after next was mediocre. Time to switch it up.
