BETHEL PARK — Donald Trump dodged a bullet… literally. In a shocking development, the Republican nominee for the U.S. presidential election was addressing a campaign rally when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to blow his head off. The assassination attempt transpired around 6:15 p.m. Saturday night (July 13, 2024) at the Butler Farm Show fairgrounds in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Equipped with an AR-style semi-automatic assault rife, Crooks set up shop on the rooftop of a manufacturing plant 130 yards away. He fired a shot at Trump’s noggin, grazing his ear and killing 50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore. Secret Service snipers returned fire — striking Crooks multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Trump was escorted to an SUV and transported to the hospital for treatment. “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” the quondam Commander-in-Chief said in a social media post. “I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
Pennsylvania State Police said two people were seriously injured.
David Dutch, 57, of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and James Copenhaver, 74, of Moon Township, Pennsylvania are in stable condition.
Here’s what I don’t get: Crooks ain’t a Democrat. He’s a registered Republican. So why go after one of your own? Those who knew Crooks thought he was MAGA. They thought wrong. “He didn’t seem like really weird or anything. I would have pegged him as a Republican,” a former classmate told reporters. “He was more of a loner. He probably had a friend group, but not many friends.”
Social media reaction was skeptical.
One commenter wrote, “This looks so staged. Make y’all feel bad so he can get votes. Don’t believe this.”
Another chimed in with, “FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!”
A third person added, “How could Biden stoop so low.”
After getting hit, Trump grabbed his right ear and lowered himself to the ground.
Thousands of people were in attendance.
Yet, nobody ran for their lives.
Agents rushed to Trump’s aid and laid on top of him until they heard, “shooter is down.”
As he was being ushered off stage, Trump said, “Let me get my shoes.”
Then he told the agents, “wait, wait, wait.”
A bloodied Trump turned to the audience to gesticulate a fist pump.
“Fight! Fight!” he yelled.
The raucous crowd chanted, “USA! USA!” in response.
The entire ordeal looked scripted.
They must think Americans are cretinous.
Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo, who attended the rally, even had the audacity to call Trump a hero.
“I saw the man standing on his own two feet and stick his fist up in the air,” he said.
“And, you know, he’s tough. He’s a tough guy.”
President Joe Biden condemned the attack, saying it’s time to set aside political differences and unite.
“There’s no place for this kind of violence in America,” he vented.
“We must unite as one nation to condemn it… It’s sick.”
