College student left for dead.

SOUTHFIELD — Friend or frenemy? That’s the question. Kentia Fearn, 23, was thrown in the slammer after she left her best friend to die in the middle of the street. The fatality transpired around 4:30 a.m. on June 3, 2023 in Southfield, Michigan. It was also captured on video. After leaving a party, Kentia drove her 2022 silver Jeep Compass at a high rate of speed and her BFF — 23-year-old Mia Kanu — was a passenger in the back seat. Not sure if she was shoved, but Mia fell out onto the road and — rather than pull over to check on her bestie — Kentia continued to drive like nothin’ happened. An ambulance eventually showed up. Mia was transported to Ascension Providence Hospital, where she remained on life support for two days. Kentia was arrested and charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death and operating while intoxicated.

She’s facing up to 5 years in prison.

“The law requires anyone involved in an accident to stop and immediately report the accident to authorities,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement.

“Leaving the scene when someone is seriously injured or dies is a felony. My office will hold those who do so accountable.”

During interrogation, Kentia claimed Mia jumped out. But Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said, “There is no evidence that suggests Mia jumped from the vehicle.” Investigators believe Mia, who was drunk, was in the process of throwing up. They found vomit on the seal of the door and in the roadway where Mia’s body was found. At his press conference, Chief Barren asked what type of person would watch someone fall out of a vehicle and not stop to make sure everything’s cool.

“What kind of friend is that?” Barren said.

“I ask all of you that question: Who would do that?”

Kentia said her boyfriend had her cell phone, and she was in a rush to get it back.

Chief Barren said that’s a terrible excuse.

“Evidence suggests [Kentia] was more concerned about getting a phone back from her boyfriend,” he explained.

“Rather than call 911 or to turn the vehicle around to tend to Mia’s injuries if any, because, again, the car just kept driving.”

It should be noted Mia was gorgeous and had dudes lining up to take her out on a date.

Conversely, Kentia is below average.

Close sources believe jealousy was involved.

Social media reaction was mostly in agreement.

One commenter wrote, “That evil girl was jealous.”

Another person added, “Kentia is a jealous, low-life woman who was never her friend.”

Mia’s mom, Bianca VanMeter, launched a foundation in her daughter’s memory to empower “young women through scholarship, mentorship service and lasting connection.”

Mia was a student at Tennessee State University.

She’s gone but not forgotten.

“She was beautiful inside and out,” Bianca told reporters.

“She laughed about everything, even if you wanted her to do something that she didn’t want to do, she would just say ‘OK.’ ”

  1. What a beautiful young lady Mia was, with a great future that was just wiped out.
Pushed or fell, why didn’t the driver stop to help.
    TRAGIC!

  2. What the f** Like how do you leave someone in the middle of the damn road!!! Even while intoxicated, if you noticed your phone was gone you know someone is missing from the car!!

  3. Just that girls name and that bad weave, tells me all I needed to know. She likely has no daddy.

  4. I count my real friends on one hand, No new friends, You can’t trust everyone.

  5. When you are moving up in life, you cannot have the same circle of ppl lingering in your life.

If there is someone in your circle who makes you feel uncomfortable please follow those intuitions.

    RIP beautiful ️️️💖💖💖

  6. The friend killing is out of control! I don’t trust many of my daughter’s friends because of mess like this!

  7. Keep this woman in jail for the rest of her life. She killed someone and left the scene of the crime.

  8. These so-called FRIENDS are NOT FRIENDS!!!! Listen, the term “friends” is used loosely!!!! I would not be surprised if that young lady was pushed from the moving vehicle. The car is moving, who in their right mind would jump from a moving car? Unless it’s a life or death situation. Also, the fact that her friend didn’t stop is telling me if it wasn’t an accident, why not stop and call for help? These ppl are not friends they’re friend, k!lla. Ever since the situation with Shanquella Robinson, that’s when I took a step back and more vigilant about my surroundings. We all have to stay woke!!!! I dnt care how nice , dedicated, be there 4 you, and the first to your rescue doesn’t matter. I’ll be watching from the corner of my eyes!!! I’m sorry because those can be the most dangerous. Ppl, the closest to u have the opportunity to harm you!!
