MEMPHIS — The adventures of Pookie & Ray Ray continue. Jaylan McCollins, 28, was thrown in the slammer after he murdered his ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Anthonese Stewart, because she broke up with him. Jaylan killed her stepdad too. The double homicide transpired on July 1, 2024 in Memphis, Tennessee. According to police reports, Anthonese — a victim of domestic violence — told Jaylan she was sick and tired of being his punching bag and she wanted to end their 3-year relationship. A bout of contretemps ensued. As the quarrel intensified, Jaylan pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Anthonese multiple times. Her stepdad, 65-year-old U.S. Army Veteran Gary Newman, was also shot when he came to the rescue. Anthonese was pronounced dead at the scene. Gary died at the hospital. “From what we can gather, she was trying to separate from him and he was having a hard time coping with the separation,” Sonya Witherspoon, Anthonese’s Aunt, told reporters.
“My nephew was in the bedroom sleeping when everything occurred. You hear your loved ones being murdered around you. You clearly know what is going on, you can hear it. I’m just happy that there were no more fatalities.”
Jaylan absconded and remained on the run. Police warned the public, saying he should be considered armed and dangerous. “Please, if anyone out there is hearing my voice and is in contact with Jaylan McCollins, please talk to him and have him turn himself in because he has left this family broken,” Sonya pleaded. Jaylan was arrested and taken into custody 49 days later.
He’s charged with two felony counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors want the death penalty.
What’s sad is Jaylan has a history of tormenting women.
But Anthonese dated him anyway, thinking she could change him.
Several ex-girlfriends filed domestic violence reports against Jaylan, claiming he beat their asses between 2018 and 2020.
Anthonese beseeched her family to give Jaylan a place to stay.
In hindsight, they should’ve left him homeless on the street.
“My sister treated him like a son,” Sonya bemoaned.
“Even Gary, the victim, the person he murdered in cold blood, let him into his home.”
Ladies, hate to say it, but y’all need to choose better.
This sh*t is gettin’ old.
Bad boys are obviously a poor choice.

I have so many questions. What was Jaylan’s situation before he moved in? Was he from a dysfunctional family or did they kick him out? Why not do a background check? Were there any attempts to help him become independent? Was it a given that he wouldn’t accomplish much in life? Was he working on his hip hop career? If Anthonese had been trying to break up with him for a year, why was he still living there. Did she feel guilty making him leave even if she was done with him? This stuff isn’t brought up out of respect, I assume.
Living at the family home playing house, drinking, on social media. When did this family feel Jalen was in-law material? This young man/coward being kicked out decided to ruin other family member’s lives.

I swear, parents have got to stop allowing these grown adults to live under your roof. This was probably the only family he ever had and he knew if she left him, he would literally have nothing left. He was a loser that had nothing to lose plain & simple. I feel so bad for her family because they won’t fully recover from this tragedy ever.
