LOS ANGELES — “DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!” John Amos, who starred as patriarch James Evans Sr. on the 70s family sitcom “Good Times,” has migrated to that big ghetto in the sky. John — who had dementia — kicked the bucket in late August amid complications from congestive heart failure. He was 84. John’s daughter — Shannon Amos — broke the sad news on Instagram. But, surprisingly, she learned of John’s demise on Tuesday (October 1st) after reading about it in the news one month after he died. Ain’t that a bitch? “I am without words… Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos Jr., transitioned on August 21st,” Shannon wrote along with a video of her and John dancing to ‘Dance with My Father’ by Luther Vandross. “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you. This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.”

Shannon and family members are accusing John’s son, Kelly Christopher Amos, and other relatives of elder abuse — claiming they purloined his cash while treating him like sh*t. The family released the following statement: “Over the past year, John Amos was isolated from his family and close friends by Kelly ‘KC’ Amos, Eugene Brummet and Belinda Foster. Despite our repeated attempts to maintain contact, KC prevented access to him, controlled and monitored his calls and severed ties with John’s daughter Shannon Amos, his brother Leslie ‘Syl’ Franklin, his grandchildren Quiera Colston and Jhazz Williams, his business manager Paul Baldessare, his god-daughter Amy Goudy, his niece Sherri Korsun, his former accountant and other close family members, friends, and loved ones.”

The family also said, “KC portrayed an image of a close father-son relationship on social media, but the reality was far more complex. KC often gave John verbal prompts to create a narrative on social media that was not reflective of the truth. We were deeply concerned that our father may have been neglected and isolated during his final days as we received photos from concerned neighbors and a medical professional.”

John’s death certificate shows he was cremated 9 days after his quietus.

KC, who has his ashes, released the following statement through the Hollywood Reporter: “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

John played football at Colorado State University.

He once tried out for training camps with the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs of the American Football League.

Produced by Norman Lear, “Good Times” ran from 1974 ’til 1979.

John’s credits also include “Roots,” “Coming to America” and “The West Wing.”

If you recall, he was fired from “Good Times” after the third season because he threatened to beat the sh*t out of the show’s white writers for portraying negative stereotypes of black people.

Watch Shannon put KC on blast and cast member tributes.

  1. John Amos was a amazing actor , but at the end of
the day I hope he knows God.,.🙏🏿

  2. @jamesnet: God? Satan? Who is Satan? Something you learned in an Ancient Religious book? I guess you believe in Zeus and Thor too because they were also Ancient beliefs!?!? Why not believe in Allah? Or Buddha? They’re all Ancient beliefs. Or you can believe in volcanoes, The Moon or Sun Gods because once again they’re ALLLLL nothing but Ancient Beliefs JUST LIKE YOURS! Go get an education before coming to me with what you’ve been Brainwashed to believe🤦‍♂️.

  3. How was there foul play when he was in hospice?did they walk up in there and kill him?

  4. If you thought there could be any questions of inappropriate conduct you would think to have an autopsy performed and informing other family members of his passing before having Mr Amos cremated would be the right and reasonable thing to do to way lay any questions of impropriety, not keeping the rest of the family totally in the dark for 45 days whilst holding a secret cremation with no autopsy, this stinks to high heaven, and his son has dishonered his father by creating this controversy, whether he is guilty of the allegations of brainwashing and manipulating Mr Amos or not the way he has gone about Mr amos passing is totally inappropriate and tends to indicate something was not above board. To create such a dark cloud over the memory of the legend that was Mr John Amos does him a complete injustice even if the rest of the allegations are unfounded or incorrect KC has tainted and muddied the memory of his father with his selfish, spiteful and hateful actions towards the rest of the family denying them the opportunity to say goodbye to Mr Amos!
    Heartbreaking!️

  5. Where was his children to help him in his last days? The kids seem very cold and distinct. If you knew your dad was sick, how come they didn’t call or visit once a week. You didn’t know your father died for 6 weeks. That is something wrong with the daughter’s concern.

  6. Going threw this right “NOW” with my 2 greedy siblings…?‼️?

  10. Why can’t we let him rest in peace? Why must we dig around to find answers when this doesn’t concern us?

  11. His children are pathetic. I have no idea who is telling the truth.. It’s very sad..Greed is definitely the root of all evil..That’s what happened in this case..RIP, John Amos..Hopefully, they can find out the real truth and hold those people accountable..
