LOS ANGELES — “🎵They smilin’ in your face. All the time, they want to take your place. The back stabbers.🎵” Law enforcement officials in Los Angeles are investigating after a pair of gunmen murdered pro boxer Mylik Birdsong in cold blood. The homicide transpired outside the residence of Mylik’s mom around 5 p.m. on September 29, 2024. According to police reports, Mylik went to his mom’s house to drop off some food. He had his girlfriend with him. While they were outside chatting, the gang bangers pulled up in a dark SUV and effectuated a drive-by — striking Mylik multiple times. Then they got out, stood over Mylik, and emptied the clip — in front of his mom, Zonyia Birdsong, and the girlfriend. “They murdered my child in front of me,” a lachrymose Zonyia told reporters. “They both stood up over him and there was the sound of bang.” Mylik’s stepdad, Victor Taylor, also witnessed the shooting. “I’m totally heartbroken because they did it in front of me,” he bemoaned.

“They assassinated him. They assassinated my son in front of me.”

Mylik, the reigning Welterweight Champion for the World Boxing Foundation, had a title fight scheduled. Zonyia knew he had talent the moment he egressed her womb. “My baby was born to fight,” she said. “That was his thing. He enjoyed boxing regardless of the busted lips, the stitches, the broken hands.” Mylik was not only great inside the ring, he was equally awesome outside of it.

“Anything he could do for anyone, he was so willing to do it,” said Mylik’s aunt, Romona McCardell.

“They’d have Thanksgiving dinner, and he would pack up food to take to the homeless. He would give his tennis shoes away. See the homeless, [then ask] what size shoe do you need?”

Zonyia, however, raised eyebrows when she said it was probably time for Mylik to die.

“I believe it was his time,” she explained.

“I have to believe it was his time. I pray. I believe in faith, but I know this battle is not mine. It’s not mine. It’s the Lord’s. I know that. Whoever did that, that’s something they have to answer to.”

Aunt Romona echoed a homogeneous sentiment.

“It hurts that he’s not here, but I know God had a plan,” she said.

“Like his mom said, this was part of God’s plan. We wanted him to stay, but God said no, it was time.”

Here’s what interesting:

Mylik was killed, but the girlfriend walked away unscathed.

Now there’s speculation she may have played a role.

Chris Brown said it best, some of “these hoes ain’t loyal.”

For all we know, the girlfriend was f*ckin’ one of them n*ggas.

That said, so far there’s no suspects in custody and — because snitches get stitches — nobody’s talking.

  14. There’s a whole story that’s not being told. Usually when things are that personal to were he’s executed: it’s usually over some girl or because the brother became successful. It’s weird.

  16. We have to be better than this. We have not advanced as a society with so much gun violence. My nephew was murdered in a similar manner. We have to teach our children about the preciousness of a human life. There are 8an infinite number of solar system with a countless number of planets and thus far we are the only known planet with intelligent life. Yet, we are willingly extinguishing the life force of people. Its just sad.😢

I was standing in front of my own house with a guy many years ago, and my father walked up to the guy and said, “You heated?” And the guy said, “What?” And I could tell my father was irritated and wanted to sock him in his mouth, but out of respect for me, he ask him 1 more time. “Are you heated?” and he said no.
