DALLAS — Cus D’Amato has to be rolling over in his grave. After watching Mike Tyson get his ass kicked in an exhibition bout, I realized two things: 1) Father Time is undefeated. And, 2) As fans, we’re suckers for nostalgia and the entertainment industry is taking advantage of us. Following a 2-decade hiatus, 58-year-old Iron Mike won the first two rounds of his highly anticipated return to the boxing ring then suffered a savage beating the rest of the way — falling short to YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul, who coasted to a consentient decision Friday night at AT&T Stadium — home of the Dallas Cowboys. Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) landed a measly 18 punches in eight two-minute rounds compared to 78 for Paul — 31 of ’em were jabs. The judges scored the beatdown 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 in Paul’s favor. Both fighters wore big-ass, “Charmin” soft boxing gloves to eschew injuries. When asked if he proved anything to fans and media by going the distance, Iron Mike retorted, “I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I’m not one of those guys that look to please the world. I’m just happy with what I can do.”

Paul, 27, was gracious in victory. He spent the first few minutes of his post-fight interview lauding Tyson’s greatness. “He’s a legend,” Paul said. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. He’s the GOAT. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him, and we wouldn’t be here without him. He’s an icon. He’s the toughest man on the planet.” More than 70,000 fans packed the arena, and Netflix streamed the fight to its 280 million subscribers.

It was the streaming service’s first foray into live sports and, boy, did it show.

The commentators were terrible.

Rosie Perez, 60, is an amazing actress.

But she don’t know a damn thang about boxing.

Because of high traffic, there were buffering glitches, pixel issues and frequent outages throughout the broadcast.

Hell, many subscribers couldn’t login to see the fight.

Very frustrating.

Hopefully, the problems will get fixed before the NFL makes it Netflix debut on Christmas with a matchup featuring our repeat Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shaquille O’Neal, Charlize Theron, Cedric the Entertainer, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Joe Jonas and Sugar Ray Leonard were among the who’s who of celebrities to attend.

Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) made his way to the ring in a green, custom Chevy dually truck with his brother, Logan, beside him in a sedentary position.

Tyson didn’t have a vehicle.

Instead, while donning a knee brace, his saunter was met with an electrifying round of applause as he entered to “Murdergram” by Ja Rule, Jay-Z and DMX.

It was his first fight as a professional since he got his ass whooped by Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005.

Many people believe the fight was rigged because Paul failed to knock out Tyson who’s 31 years his senior.

They even shared a warm embrace with time expiring in the final frame.

Aww… ain’t that cute?

It was the corniest thing ever.

The Katie Taylor/Amanda Serrano undercard was 10 times better than Tyson/Paul.

At times, the crowd became restless and booed the paucity of exertion.

“I was trying to hurt him a little bit,” Paul said.

“I was scared he was going to hurt me. I was trying to hurt him. I did my best.”

Tyson earned $20 million for the fight despite showing his bare buttocks during a pre-fight interview.

It was gay as hell.

Iron Mike has no doubt sold his soul for a final payday.

Paul got $40 million, by far his largest purse ever.

He has also expressed interest in a rematch.

Now that he has his money, is it time for Tyson to retire?

Is boxing officially dead?

  11. Really flabergasted that Mike Tyson, the #1 fighter for so many generations would stoop to the lowest level of fake boxing. His training videos showed his REAL abilities and skills. For him to just “cover up” and let this talentless, low class wanabe kid hit him was the worst Ive ever seen. Mike is a sincere, world class athlete, he didnt need to help this wannabe gain notoriety. Money is money, but Mike still remains a true champion, while this wannabe kid needs to go away and NOT ever draw any respect from anyone.

  12. You can kind of see it on Tysons face to be honest. He does not look happy to be there at all. It looked like he was just there to get it over with and he seemed really displeased with the whole affair. I really do admire though, that his entrance was just him walking out in a shirt and a song playing. No flashy over the top cringey entrance.

    The Pauls are such dick bags, we really need to stop giving them attention. This whole affair was just sad all around. I didn’t think Tyson would stoop low enough to fight a fixed fight, but I guess money is money and he’s setting up his family.

  17. This was NOT awful. This was the best fight I have ever seen I have so much respect for both Tyson and Paul. I was so moved by this match. You cannot expect Tyson to have done better. Learn to appreciate the true meaning of the fight. This is the best fight that I have ever seen and I am 78 years old done with respect and admiration. You complainers are all couch potatoes that could not last 2 rounds with Paul. I had a most wonderful night of pugilistic entertainment.

  20. I think Tyson was stoned. He usually bobs and weaves and always advances. He was flat footed and even stumbled when he was walking to the ring. It was two guys who came up with a way to make some quick cash and have fun. Hell Im 65 and i know i could of taken any of the boxers punches. And they fought with pillows not boxing gloves.

  22. Ok, everybody relax! You paid to be entertained and you watched a number of fights and you were entertained. I remember paying $45 bucks back in the 80s to watch a Tyson fight, 30 seconds into the main event and Tyson destroyed the guy! I was mad because I thought it would go longer. Tyson was obviously struggling for energy. We didn’t see the Tyson who we saw training. The days of Mohammad Ali and George Forman are gone, don’t even expect it! It will be ok folks, let Tyson retire in peace and hold his honor.

It wasn’t just his knees. Remember Robert DeNiro as Jake LaMotta crying in the dressing room after he throws a fight in “Raging Bull?” Yeah, like that.

  25. He only landed 18 punches. To Paul’s 252 or something like that.. not the Mike I know..Was definitely fixed. I also think Tyson didn’t want to hurt him, there good friends on the street and billions were bet, so I’m just glad Tyson was able to make a great payout from this..Give Mike credit at 58 going 8 rounds, at 25 I couldn’t go 3.

  36. When Tyson announced his retirement, he said he was done disgracing the sport of boxing by taking on low quality opponents. I guess for $20 mil a lot of us would compromise our principles.

  38. This was rigged to bring boxing to a younger generation. When I saw Tyson walking out I said to my husband something wrong, he’s conflicted, eyes darting around. Biting the glove? To hold back his natural instincts. But something people are not figuring in is that just a few months back, he was hospitalized for bleeding ulcers, had 8 blood transfusions and was septic. He probably should have postponed again. But watch Tyson in training…. He brought the smoke. But none to the fight? I watched Jake training and was underwhelmed. Was this a real fight?

  39. The knee brace was worn to justify him moving so slowly and not going in for the kill. There were many opportunities to counter with a knockout blow. Mike’s defense is still amazing.

I grew up in the 90s 80s that Tupac generation know I wasn’t watching that garbage cuz Mike Tyson won all his good fights back in the 90s when are some black YouTubers or black men that need the money going to fight Jake Paul cuz this guy is taking advantage of washed up black athletes Legends for millions of dollars to be successful this is not right he needs to find somebody his own age in the same weight class that’s a professional boxer and has some status😂😂
