DALLAS — After watching Mike Tyson get his ass kicked in an exhibition bout, I realized two things: 1) Father Time is undefeated. And, 2) As fans, we’re suckers for nostalgia and the entertainment industry is taking advantage of us. Following a 2-decade hiatus, 58-year-old Iron Mike won the first two rounds of his highly anticipated return to the boxing ring then suffered a savage beating the rest of the way — falling short to YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul, who coasted to a consentient decision Friday night at AT&T Stadium — home of the Dallas Cowboys. Tyson (50-7, 44 KOs) landed a measly 18 punches in eight two-minute rounds compared to 78 for Paul — 31 of ’em were jabs. The judges scored the beatdown 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73 in Paul’s favor. When asked if he proved anything to fans and media by going the distance, Iron Mike retorted, “I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I’m not one of those guys that look to please the world. I’m just happy with what I can do.”

Paul, 27, was gracious in victory. He spent the first few minutes of his post-fight interview lauding Tyson’s greatness. “He’s a legend,” Paul said. “He’s the greatest to ever do it. He’s the GOAT. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him, and we wouldn’t be here without him. He’s an icon. He’s the toughest man on the planet.” More than 70,000 fans packed the arena, and Netflix streamed the fight to its 280 million subscribers.

It was the streaming service’s first foray into live sports and, boy, did it show.

The commentators were terrible.

Rosie Perez, 60, is an amazing actress.

But she don’t know a damn thang about boxing.

Because of high traffic, there were buffering glitches, pixel issues and frequent outages throughout the broadcast.

Hell, many subscribers couldn’t see the fight.

Very frustrating.

Hopefully, the problems will get fixed before the NFL makes it Netflix debut on Christmas with a matchup featuring our repeat Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Shaquille O’Neal, Charlize Theron, Cedric the Entertainer, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Joe Jonas and Sugar Ray Leonard were among the who’s who of celebrities to attend.

Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) made his way to the ring in a green, custom Chevy dually truck with his brother, Logan, beside him.

Tyson didn’t have a vehicle.

Instead, his saunter was met with an electrifying round of applause as he entered to “Murdergram” by Ja Rule, Jay-Z and DMX.

It was his first fight as a professional since he got spanked by Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005.

Many people believe the fight was rigged because Paul failed to knock out Tyson who’s 31 years his senior.

They even shared a hug with time expiring in the final frame.

It was the corniest thing ever.

The Katie Taylor/Amanda Serrano undercard was 10 times better than Tyson/Paul.

At times, the crowd became restless and booed the paucity of exertion.

“I was trying to hurt him a little bit,” Paul said.

“I was scared he was going to hurt me. I was trying to hurt him. I did my best.”

Tyson earned $20 million for the fight despite showing his bare ass during pre-fight warmups.

Paul got $40 mil.

Is it time for Tyson to retire?

Is boxing dead?

  1. This was the worst fight I have ever seen. The boos in the crowd told you everything. Total scam this was. The women were going at it though…that was good.

  2. Obviously it was a payday Tyson couldn’t refuse. This fight had no business taking place.

  3. This is the reason I pirate every single live event, you simply cant trust live TV anymore. everything is staged 😂😂😂

  4. Mike wasn’t throwing punches. He was biting his gloves instead of boxing.

  5. Two takeaways from this fight; Iron Mike has no business fighting at this stage in his life, and Rosie Perez has no business commentating on fights. Tyson’s bare ass was hilarious!! 😂

  6. This felt like the harlem globetrotters/savannah bananas but for boxing – over-hyped, not top talent, over-priced

  7. I mean… it was exactly what I expected 2 dudes tapping each other for 8 rounds and laughing all the way to the bank

  8. Jones called it right off. JP could have ended it several times.
However, it all worked out for those two. 16 minutes of work for 40 million dollars.
Those ladies truly impressed me and anything after that fight was gonna be a lot down.
Mike secured his financial future for a while and he didn’t become the thing he knew the world wanted him to become.
The guys are laughing all the way to the bank

  9. If my parents fought in the backyard, it would be more violent than this fight.

  10. Who fought harder: Tyson and Paul, or Netflix viewers with their remote while the signal buffered?

  11. People get suckered for a boxing matchup every three years. Then complain how awful the fight was or how rigged it is and how the sport of boxing is a disgrace. It’s the definition of insanity!

  12. My husband said “this is staged” as soon as Jake was in the corner and his coach said “your the young lion he is the old lion” …my husband is a kickboxer, he said no coach would ever fucking say that, he said you’d be getting technical guidance. And they so happened to catch that on camera. It’s gross.

  13. My wife agrees. The female fight was fight of the night , that one was crazy!

  14. I think Iron Mike must know that his biggest mistake in boxing was not standing by the men who made him a champion. Don King ruined Iron Mike and Mike knows it. Had Tyson stuck with Kevin Rooney as his trainer Mike Tyson’s career would have been even more successful. Kevin Rooney understood Tyson’s personality. He knew that you couldn’t allow Iron Mike to have much down time away from boxing. In his youth Tyson didn’t have the maturity to protect himself from greedy reptilian monsters like Don King. When Cus D’Amato died Mike lost the one father figure in his life who raised him to be the best Mike Tyson he could be.

So when Don King sank his talons into Mike (and they fired Mike’s team) that signaled the beginning of the end for Iron Mike Tyson.

In this fight Mike received 20 million dollars to fight an arrogant YouTuber who will never have the talent to earn his place on a fight card next to a fighter even half the caliber of Mike Tyson. Iron Mike made it to the other side of this internet farce with his legacy still in tact. But if Mike does it again? That would be his second biggest mistake in boxing. He’d instantly become a circus act and his legacy would suffer tremendously. At the very least Mike Tyson won’t be forced to shake the hands of Hotel guests in the driveway of Caesars Palace in Las Vegas to make ends meet any time soon. Like Joe Louis was forced to do way back in the day.

In the end I think that the greatest thing that Mike Tyson ever accomplished was when he apologized to Teddy Atlas for what he did.

  15. Not everyone will be able to watch football on Christmas because of it only being available on Netflix, or ESPN, or NFL streaming apps. So thank Goodell. I hope it goes just like this boxing match with, the buffering, grainy footage and the lagging and jumping. Bad idea Goodell. I’ll subscribe to it but cancel that night after football is over.

  16. Mike Tyson needs to simply ride off into the sunset and accept that his boxing career is OVER. He needs to stop trying to stage these “comebacks.”

  17. I’m sure things will
be fine for the NFL Christmas Day games on Netflix.

  18. No crap it was staged.
Everyone knew it was going to be a fake fight from the moment it was announced. Yet fools still payed for this garbage.

  19. I’ve seen better fights at Walmart during black friday sales….😂😂

  20. This is shocking to absolutely no one but the idiots that actually bet money on Mike winning. It was obviously staged.

  21. I tuned in for Mike Tyson but ended up liking The Women fighting! Netflix dropped the ball!! Evander Hollyfields mic wasn’t working, buffing system issues! This was nothing but to boost Netflix sales! Scripted fight. Fake Paul is a joke! This man should not even allowed to fight! Can somebody buss the man up!! It was to soon or shouldn’t even happened!

  22. Tyson vs. Paul is a disgrace to the sport of boxing knowing it was scripted. Just sad Netflix shouldn’t be able to host scripted sporting events

  23. Rigged sports don’t bother me. It’s entertainment, like a movie with referee(s).

  24. I know we all wanted to believe that Mike could have knocked him out, and trust me I dislike Jake as much as the next guy but let’s get real here, I think if they both would have went full bore Mike would have got his ass whooped simply because of his age and his legs were not looking good. Those couple of shots (and not good ones at that), got him all kinds of wobbly.

  25. They’re all staged. Why keep paying money for this crap, only to line their pockets with money?

  26. Tyson was slower & Bad knees, Jake just bounced away from Tyson, Jake doesn’t have the power to hurt Tyson. Respect would have been Jake Standing Toe to Toe with Iron Mike. Peter McNeeley at least gave a better effort

  27. The problem is the fans buying into these BS fights… If there is no money, then this crap will stop… Fans are literally helping to destroy boxing… 💥

  28. Next scripted fight:
Jake Paul vs “Rocky Balboa” good ‘ol Sylvester Stallone himself.
Too bad Apollo Creed won’t be there by ringside.
    RIP Apollo Creed 🥊
