NEW ORLEANS — When celebrating New Year’s Day goes tragically wrong. Residents of “The Big Easy” are in mourning after 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar drove a Ford pickup truck into a large crowd while letting his gat explode — killing at least 14 mothaf*ckas and injuring 35. The terrorist attack transpired around 3:15 a.m. on January 1, 2025 on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shamsud — an army veteran and U.S. citizen of Houston, Texas who recently pledged allegiance to ISIS — used the Turo app to rent the truck. Donning full military gear, Shamsud drove to New Orleans on New Year’s Eve and placed a pair of IEDs in coolers in the city’s French Quarter. After shooting dozens of people, Shamsud got out of the vehicle and fired at law enforcement. Shots were returned by officers. The father of three was killed during the shootout.
FBI agents said Shamsud had originally planned to kill his family. But he changed his mind because he wanted media members to place their cynosure on the “war between the believers and the disbelievers.” As for his wife and kids? Shamsud was roiled in a pecuniary quandary during a nasty divorce in 2022, despite earning $57.69 an hour at Deloitte. Court docs state he incurred more than $16,000 in credit card debt, he had an outstanding mortgage balance of $199,984.45, and his real estate business — Blue Meadow Properties LLC — suffered a loss of $28,019.54 in 2021.
Shamsud knew the court would rule in his ex-wife’s favor, so he emailed her attorney about expediting the dissolution.
“Time is of the essence,” he wrote.
“I can not afford the house payment. It is past due in excess of $27,000 and in danger of foreclosure if we delay settling the divorce.”
Shamsud, a 3-time divorcee, ended up paying his ex-wife alimony and child support.
Plus, she took half of his sh*t.
Shamsud was also paying his other two ex-wives.
That explains why he lived in a trailer park that was nothin’ short of squalid, and he had sheep and goats roaming his yard.
That n*gga obviously snapped.
Bourbon Street, by the way, is famous for its bars and strip clubs.
Everybody was having a good time until Shamsud ruined the New Year.
Social media reaction was wild.
One commenter wrote, “I figured this guy was an incel or a broke loser. I was right.”
Another chimed in with, “A broke and depressed man is vulnerable to violence.”
A third person added, “I don’t give a f*ck what you’re going through. You don’t take out your frustration on innocent people.”
Shamsud served in the army for more than a decade.
He’s also had run-ins with the law.
He was busted for theft in 2002 before getting a DUI in 2015.
Not to mention his second ex-wife filed a restraining order against him, citing domestic violence.
Also, on New Year’s Day, 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger detonated a rented Tesla Cybertruck outside President Donald Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas — killing himself and injuring others.
Like Shamsud, Matthew was also in the military.
He served 19 years as a Green Beret.
Both Shamsud and Matthew were stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
