LOS ANGELES — Dr. James Naismith has to be rolling over in his grave. A viral video shows a handful of NBA legends elucidating why the league’s television ratings and viewership have plummeted 53 percent. YIKES!!! And the reasons are aplenty — preventing an easy fix. “If you watch the NBA, it has changed so much over the years,” said Jerry West, whose silhouette is the basis for the NBA logo. “Damn, the rules are so relaxed.” Indiana Pacers icon Reggie Miller echoed a homogeneous sentiment. “You can’t hand-check,” he vented. “You can’t contest shots.” B.J. Armstrong, who won three championships with Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, lambasted the NBA for being a copycat league. “I go watch the game, there’s no more creativity,” he said. “There’s no more imagination. We have, basically, robots running up and down the court.” Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, who won 4 titles, blames Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors for starting a 3-point epidemic across the league.

“People always used to say, ‘Shaq, you take a beating,'” he recalled.

“Wasn’t a beating. I loved it. And now, 15-20 years later, you got guys shooting threes. It’s cute… The game has been perfect ever since Naismith created it… We, as humans, f*cked it up.”

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar concurred, saying, “You get close to the basket, a lot more of your shots will go in.”

Well, duh?

Tell ’em Kareem.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla, who led the Boston Celtics to a world championship, raised eyebrows when he admitted he’s not a fan of the league. “I don’t watch NBA games so I’m just as much the problem,” he said. When a reporter asked, “Is there a reason for that?” he replied, “I don’t like watching the games.” Ouch! In addition to substandard play on the hardwood, the NBA has gotten pricey.

“It’s expensive to watch games now. It used to be free,” said 3-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas.

“You got to buy cable for your own teams, and then you gotta buy League Pass to get the League Pass stuff.”

Load management is also an issue.

Nobody plays all 82 games anymore.

Players can simply sit out if they’re tired and still get paid.

Ain’t that a bitch?

“I think the integrity of the game is gone,” said Stephen Jackson, who played 14 seasons in the NBA.

“As a whole, as an identity for the league as a whole, it don’t have that tough ‘every night I watch these guys, they go compete and try to kill each other to win.’ You don’t have that feeling when you watch NBA basketball.”

Do you agree with the greats?

Has the game and players gotten too soft?

Watch the legends give their 2 cents.

  1. Who wants pay money to watch bunch of the same type players… no variety no identity absolutely no fun at all.. I dont even know who plays now.. 40 years ago I knew almost each team each player each STAR… now it’s same thing over and over and I wouldn’t be surprised if dunk contest becomes a 3 point contest.. today basketball just sucks overall..

  2. None of the top players have charisma. They are all borring with zero personality that merits any kind of interest. They are all a bunch of divas too.

  3. The NBA on a nightly basis is a pick up game league. No team offense or defense. Just 3 point attempts and players hanging off the rim.

  4. I don’t watch any more boring fixed games corrupted by officials and management .

  5. Correct! Everyone wants to become steph.😂😂..they need to become unique.

  6. NBA BECAME SORRYASS FOR SORRYASS FANS THAT ARE SOFT LIKE SNOWFLAKES

  7. @mjahzerahtiffany: The NFL is the same way. Everybody wants to be Patrick Mahomes. Won’t be long before the NFL’s ratings plummet too.

  8. Shocker ?? Product of your environment. Soft. Take big notes NFL . You’re heading in the same route.

  9. 1. Rivalries are dead.
    2. No defense.
    3. Players without personalities.
    4. Players demand trades constantly.
    5. The product is now boring.

  10. It’s the money,,, its taken over, the NBA is like street ball!! Sadly, the majority of the players doesn’t care about winning championships, just aslong as they’re getting PAID!!

  11. Don’t forget to include the NBA’s indoctrination into WOKE politics!!! The league takes its orders from China, BLM, and other hate groups. We don’t care about the personal politics of Lebron James, Steve Kerr, Greg Popovich, and Stephen Curry. U.S. fans want to see good basketball – PERIOD.

  12. @Independent Voter: I agree. Politics has ruined the NBA. They should have stuck to basketball!

  13. The conference finals and nba finals is the only thing worth watching imo

  14. A person would need to be very naive to believe that “sports competition”, controlled by psychopathic oligarchs, could maintain any integrity, while pursuing their holy grail. MONEY, POWER, and MANIPULATION…..🙃

  15. the problem with todays nba is older generations sitting here shitting on the game talkin bout “back in my day” instead of respecting the evolution of the game

  16. NBA’s problems: Woke, Flopping, Dribbling, no work ethics, entitlement and of course, Leflop himself!

  17. The “Load Management” thing is not just happening in the NBA. College Football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision is experiencing this as well. We have so many bowl games that now allow 6-6 teams to play in such games, and in some cases teams with losing records have been allowed to play in such games. Ever since the playoff was implemented, players and coaches alike have basically thought “well, this game isn’t part of the playoff, so I’m going to skip it so that I can get a head start on my next gig.” Bowl games used to provide a good measuring stick on how good a team would really be, because they used to provide high quality matchups. Now, players and coaches don’t care. In January 2022, Utah faced Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, the “Grandaddy of them all.” Yet, several Ohio State players skipped it. Why? Because the Buckeyes were not in the playoff. In December of 2023, many Florida State players decided to bail on Florida State altogether because they were in the Orange Bowl, which was not part of the playoff. This prompted Kirby Smart to call out the system during the postgame press conference. When I was at Boise State (class of spring 2006), I was in the marching band all 4 years. I got to attend the 2003 Fort Worth Bowl and the 2004 Liberty Bowl. Those games featured top 20 and top 10 matchups, respectively. They were instrumental in Boise State facing Big 12 champion Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day 2007. Nowadays, unless Boise State makes it to the playoff, they can’t get such a high quality postseason opponent anymore. I think what needs to happen is that a certain amount of the bowl games need to cease to exist, as players and coaches alike have made it clear over the years that they do not care about them anymore. When the so-called leaders of the team bail on such games, the rest of the team can easily feel the same way, and not give it everything that they have. This makes for a product that is undesirable.

  18. The players have no passion. There’s no effort there’s no defense. It’s basically a 48 minute game of horse.

  19. Most of these old guys are just bitter and they were talentless that’s why they were on mj nuts in the 90s. They weren’t all that and the 90s was BS just some delusional old men thinking 90s basketball was all that

  20. The biggest problem nobody wants to say is it’s the PLAYERS they lazy and wanna complain about everything like they don’t make millions

  21. Bird and Reggie Miller would both outscore Steph Curry in today’s game.

  22. The money they make is ridiculous.
Heavily tattooed, politically opinionated, no traveling calls. Every dunk is a look at me celebration. Just a joke.

  23. NBA needs to do what Major League Baseball did and institute rules to nullify the analytics crowd. It seems to be working for them they were called the dying league forever since new rules ratings and attendance have gone way up.

  24. The young nba stars just don’t have the draw of a magic and Larry, Michael Jordan, or Lebron in his prime. The current rivalries suck and everyone is too buddy-buddy.

  25. An underrated issue nobody talks about is how the money in the NBA is guaranteed. Try making the contracts non guaranteed like it is in the NFL and I guarantee you everybody playing all 82 and trying they asses off😂😂😂

  26. It’s boring. No fundamentals that I was taught as a kid. They all travel, double dribble, palm the ball. There is nothing special about the dunk anymore when your point guard is 6’8″.

  27. The 2020 NBA Covid bubble was just weird and political. I haven’t taken any interest since.

  28. Caucasians left when the NBA started kneeling during the National Anthem. Also BLM.

  29. Players are boring and have no personality. Plus, mixing politics with pro sports is always a recipe for disaster. I loved the NBA in the 80’s and 90’s. Now, I’ll watch the HALLMARK channel before I’ll watch the NBA!

  30. 1, no physical defense. 2, constant traveling. 3, 20 of 30 teams make the playoffs. The regular season simply no longer matters if any team that’s mediocre or better is in.
