KANSAS CITY — Not only are our Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs the best team in the world. We have the best stadium too. During a recent chinwag on his “Nightcap” podcast, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe revealed how difficult it is for opponents to play at Arrowhead Stadium. The Athletic shared results of an NFL Player Survey in which current players voted on their favorite stadium to play in. Arrowhead was voted No. 1. “It’s loud. But to go there… it’s a sea of red,” Shannon told co-host Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, recalling his experience at Arrowhead when he was a member of the Denver Broncos. “And they bring that B-2 Bomber over… and it’s rumbling. The stadium is actually rumbling and all you see is red. And, during the national anthem, [the fans sing] ‘and the home of the Chieeeeefffffsssss!’ You can feel the wind of all those people saying, ‘Chieeeeefffffsssss!’ And it gives you goosebumps. It got so loud, they had to change the rules.”

Social media reaction agreed. One commenter wrote, “Arrowhead is the MECCA of football.” Another chimed in with, “Lifelong Chiefs fan here. I got goosebumps just from him describing the feeling of being at Arrowhead.” A third viewer added, “As a lifelong Chiefs fan, makes me smile to hear a Broncos player loving our stadium. It really is an experience! That bomber flyover is really something.”

  6. I also remember the game when Derrick Thomas clean the field with Elway sacked him 4 times at that game. Marty was the coach back then.

  13. Yep, DT was something special! It broke my heart when he had his wreck. The team never recovered after that. It wasn’t until Big Red took over and gave us something to dream of again.

  14. My dad and some of his buddies had season tickets at Arrowhead for years. They were located in the end zone under the jumbotron right about where the drum is currently located. Years ago I was sitting in one of those seats waiting for the game to start. I looked up and saw a black line in the sky above the lip of the other side of the stadium. I thought “What in the heck is that?”. The line kept getting longer but no details of it were resolving. I kept staring at it until suddenly I realized it was a B-2 bomber. Like Shannon said, there was no noise at all. Finally it passed overhead and it sounded as though the world was shaking apart. Even though the Chiefs are a far better team now, I still miss those days sometimes.

  15. My first Chiefs game was MNF in like 1993. Elway and the Broncos came to town and were backed up in our endzone. Im 35 now and have never heard another sound as loud as I did that night with the crowd roaring for Neil Smith and DT to finish that drive off. Could literally feel and hear my eardrums ripping. Lost my voice that night and when my teacher was talking to me the next day and heard my voice, she said “Oh you were at the game werent you?”

  18. I’ve never been able to talk after a game at Arrowhead due to losing my voice from yelling and screaming so much. Wouldn’t have it any other way.

  20. Kansas City native here. He’s absolutely right, you cannot hold a conversation with someone sitting right next to you it’s THAT LOUD. Proud to be a Chiefs fan.

  21. I was at the game when Elway complained about the noise, and the Chiefs were penalized for it.
    All we did in that situation, was get louder.
    The refs didn’t even think about another penalty.

  22. I used to work for the Chiefs and the Royals. And i absolutely love Arrowhead!!! And to enjoy it with my fellow fans, is better than any experience than any fan will at any sporting event

  24. I love Mahomes he’s my favorite player but as I’ve seen his personal friends u can tell which side of him as far as his race goes that he relates to more and that’s his white side 🤷🏾‍♂️

  26. I was at the game when Elway complained to the referee because of the noise. We only got louder! When we got fined, Lamar Hunt happily paid the fine.

  27. My first Chiefs game was at KC’s Municipal Stadium that was built for baseball, and modified for football for those first few years..
    Attending a game there made one appreciate Arrowhead, and (now) Kaufman Stadiums at the Truman Sports Complex all that much more.

  31. And yet Mark Donovan and Clark Hunt want to suggest they’d look to move the team to Kansas – ridiculous! Nobody wants a new stadium but the owner who wants even more money.
