WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden once told negro voters to support his campaign or “you ain’t black.” Well… according to 5-time Grammy winner Janet Jackson, he picked the wrong VP because Kamala “Heels Up” Harris “ain’t black” at all. The “Control” singer put the 59-year-old Democrat on blast, saying Kamala is a rare admixture of Indian and Caucasian. Then Janet, 58, doubled down on the claim after Egyptian filmmaker Mo Elmasri issued an unauthorized apology on her behalf. He produced the docuseries “Janet Jackson: Family First.” While on tour, Janet challenged Kamala’s racial identity during a chinwag with The Guardian. After reporter Nosheen Iqbal said the United States “could be on the verge of voting in its first black female president,” Janet retorted: “Well, you know what they supposedly said? She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.”
When Nosheen explained that Kamala is the daughter of an Indian woman (Shyamala Gopalan) and a Jamaican father (Donald Harris), Jackson replied, “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
If you recall, quondam President Donald Trump echoed a homogenous sentiment two months ago. The 78-year-old Republican told a room full of negro journalists that Kamala only recently “became a black person.” Janet’s remarks were met with aspersions and opprobrium. Comedian D.L. Hughley tweeted, “Janet Jackson’s interview sounded like a Trump rally. FYI! It’s a little ironic to question whether someone is black while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman. All I know is Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet don’t look like she did when she was Penny [on ‘Good Times’]!”
Ouch!
Whoopi Goldberg of The View was more polite, saying, “Janet Jackson is not a political animal. Sometimes people get it wrong. We all do it.”
Social media reaction was wild.
One commenter wrote, “What’s strange is that everyone is saying Kamala is black except Kamala. Everyone wants Kamala to be black but Kamala. Kamala avoids the question because she knows she does not want to be classified as black.”
Another chimed in with, “Janet is standing on business. Kamala was in the District Attorney’s Office when child molestation charges were brought against Michael! Janet don’t play about her family!”
A third person added, “Kamala comes from a family of wealthy Irish slave owners who married Indians. And then she lived on their plantation in Jamaica. Kamala Harris is about as black as Hillary Clinton and her bag of hot sauce.”
In Kamala’s defense, her educational background is satiated with blackness.
She attended Howard University, a historically Black institution, where she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha — the nation’s first sorority established for black college women.
