FAYETTEVILLE — Here’s another reason to remain skeptical of today’s ministers: Pastor Kenneth Hardin Jr., 39, was thrown in the slammer after he murdered his wife of 14 years, Carrie Hardin, because she sought a divorce. The uxoricide transpired on August 20, 2024 in Fayetteville, Georgia — a suburb of Atlanta. After a night of drinking, Carrie told Kenny she was sick and tired of his bullsh*t and she wanted out of the marriage. They have two sons, one in elementary school and the other in middle school. Amid trepidation of alimony and child support, a drunken Kenny pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Carrie multiple times. Then, he set her corpse on fire and buried it in the backyard. Kenny called his dad to confess, claiming he shot Carrie in self-defense. He also handed over all of his bank account information along with his last will and testament.
Pops quickly called 911 to rat out his son.
“He had told his father that he had shot his wife and pretty much that he was now going to be on the run,” Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb told reporters. “It’s shocking as hell… definitely seems like something that would be on like one of those [crime] shows.”
Fayette County deputies learned Kenny was hiding out at a sleazy motel in Covington, Louisiana. With assistance from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Louisiana State Patrol, Kenny was apprehended by a SWAT team and extradited to Georgia. He’s charged with murder. Carrie’s cadaver was also located. “I got almost basically two calls at the same time,” Sheriff Babb said.
“That the cadaver dog located our victim, which was buried in a very shallow grave on the back part of the property. And, at the same time, that the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office took him into custody without incident.”
When investigators searched the couple’s home, they could tell Kenny tried to conceal the murder.
“The officers could definitely tell immediately that there was somebody with some blood loss and that somebody had attempted to clean the crime scene,” Sheriff Babb explained.
“The tragedy here was a family that is now completely imploded. And you’ve got more than one victim… You’ve got a lot of victims, especially those little boys.”
Carrie, 39, was a nurse.
