GULFPORT, Miss — When impersonating a vixen goes tragically wrong. Makhari Gasaway, 22, was thrown in the slammer after the murdered 27-year-old Brushawn Shawmayne McClam for imitating a popsy. The femicide transpired around midnight on June 21, 2022 at Brushawn’s apartment in Gulfport, Mississippi. Makhari was sentenced on October 11, 2024. According to police reports, Makhari met Brushawn — a transgender woman — on an online dating site. Makhari had no idea Brushawn was a tranny. He thought he landed a sexy biological woman. After a brief confabulation, Makhari and Brushawn decided to get together for a night of Netflix and sustenance. While canoodling on the couch, Brushawn sucked Makhari’s dick. Then, they went to the bedroom for X-rated copulation. That’s when Brushawn whipped out his phallus, causing all hell to break loose. Feeling mortified, Makhari pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Brushawn twice.
The mendacious he-she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Makhari also shot Brushawn’s sister three times.
But she somehow survived.
Makhari was arrested, charged and convicted of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison. During the plea hearing, Judge Lisa Dodson unloaded on Makhari. It’s her assertion that once he discovered Brushawn had a penis, he should’ve egressed the apartment. “Why didn’t you just walk out?” Judge Dodson asked.
“I can’t fathom why you would react so viscerally as to shoot somebody. No one did anything to you. The family will suffer forever, and you will have this long sentence.”
District Attorney W. Crosby Parker echoed a homogeneous sentiment.
“This senseless and tragic crime caused a huge loss for the family and friends of Brushawn McClam,” he told reporters.
“This is an important day for the family as they seek justice for the loss of a beloved son and sibling. We appreciate the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the Gulfport Police Department that ensured this arrest and conviction.”
Social media reaction was venomous.
One commenter wrote, “Bullsh*t! Ain’t no f*cking way he couldn’t tell that was a dude🤦🏾♂️.”
Another chimed in with, “The judge literally told this heterosexual man, ‘Why didn’t you just walk out? No one did anything to you.’ This judge needs to be removed from the bench.”
A third person added, “This sh*t should be illegal. I can’t walk around impersonating a police officer.”
