NORTH LAUDERDALE — The adventures of Pookie & Ray Ray continue. Christopher Marc, 22, was thrown in the slammer after he murdered 13-year-old Samyiah James because she wouldn’t give him her phone number. The femicide transpired around 10:40 p.m. on August 21, 2023 in North Lauderdale, Florida. According to reports, Samyiah was sauntering down the sidewalk when Chris and a car full of dudes pulled up adjacent to her. They must’ve thought Samyiah was an adult because Chris asked for her phone number. When she declined, a bout on contretemps ensued. As the argument intensified, Samyiah tossed a drink into the vehicle and walked away. A pissed-off Chris subsequently pulled out a gun and opened fire — striking Samyiah in the back. The bloodied teen was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. “I just fell out when I got that news — I literally fell out,” Samyiah’s mother, Lolita Catis, told reporters.

“Saw my daughter laying on the ground like she was asleep, blood all over her on one side of her chest. Her mouth was halfway open like she was trying to catch her breath.”

Seven months later, Chris was arrested and charged with manslaughter with a firearm. Because tossing a drink at someone is considered assault, police officials believe a murder wasn’t committed. Prosecutors, however, are looking to amend the charge. “This was a 13-year-old child and her actions could in no way be perceived as a threat,” said a prosecutor in bond court.

“It was as a result that she threw a drink inside the car and as a result of that she was shot from behind.”

Even though it took almost a year to make an arrest, Lolita is simply glad they finally found the killer.

“I’m so happy, I’m so happy that they got the person,” she said.

“I’m not happy because my daughter is gone, because I can’t bring my daughter back, but it’s a weight off of me, because they arrested the guy.”

Samyiah was set to start the seventh grade before she was gunned down.

Social media reaction was fierce.

One commenter wrote, “She’s 13, going to the 7th grade, out after 10:00 p.m. and twerking in the street? Where were the parents?

Another chimed in with, “Hair weave and makeup have the ability to transform a little girl into a grown female.”

A third person added, “Seventh-graders should be in bed before 10 p.m., not walking the streets. The parents failed her miserably.”
